Image of Color Histories

Oil or Acrylic and graphite on Arches hot-press paper - 23cm x 31cm - 2018

In the process of making my objects, I often find I have made too much of one color. Because I work in layers upon layers of color energies, these colors act as bedrocks for the finished composition. A single note.

Rather than throwing these colors away, I decided to embrace them. Each Color History represents an interstitial color applied to a certain piece on a certain day, painted loosely, and with the same brush, within a 21:22 rectangle of graphite, or, occasionally, colored pencil. Each Color History is laid down as it is made, in one go - a memory of a moment of color.

Several of each color family are available, each unique. If you'd like to select from specific paintings available, I can share individual photos. If you select to have the work framed, we can work together to determine which specific painting you want.
